Rod Steiger, Ernest Borgnine, Anne Bancroft, they are stars for sure but it’s the other roles that shine, like Lawrence Olivier (!!), Christopher Plummer, Peter Ustinov, Anthony Quinn (!!!) and the countless smaller roles like James Farentino as Peter (excellent), Stacy Keach (oh the irony!) as Barrabas (phenomenal job), and my personal fave the great Michael York as a positively UNHINGED (as required) John the Baptist. Which is also important - the CAST!! I mean it’s easily one of the greatest assemblages of acting geniuses in that era. Also the scene of Mary Magdalene and the disciples after the resurrection. Also the Roman centurion scene and the entirety of the conversations between Pilate and Jesus. The prodigal son story scene has STELLAR acting by Robert Powell. There are specific scenes that are endlessly replayable.
